Qualified Medical Help Available When You Need It Most
Probably the most well-known job of a Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) practitioner is looking after a sporting team, from the local grassroots to International stage. The sideline management is commonly seen with the four football codes yet most sports utilise this at higher levels. The Australasian College of Sports & Exercise Physicians (ACSEP) runs an annual Management of Sporting Trauma (MOST) course which all Sports and Exercise Medicine doctors undertake during their training so they are ready for whatever injury is thrown at them. On a day-to-day basis, the SEM Doctor can look after athlete’s medical conditions, injuries and medications.
Sports and Exercise Medicine Practitioners also help cover one-off sporting events such as Triathlons, hiking expeditions and Masters or Commonwealth Games, regardless of the sport.
